Window Care

Congratulations on your new windows! Below is helpful information regarding the care and maintenance of your windows, as well as information on what to do if you should have any questions or concerns with your windows.

Condensation

What is condensation?- Water which collects as droplets on a cold surface when humid air is in contact with it.

This is something you are able to touch on the inside of the window when the inside of your house is warm and the the temperature drops outside. This is actually a good thing because you have a good seal on the window that does not allow air flow to circulate through the window unless it is open.

If you do notice that there is any type of condensation between the insulated glass unit (IG) please call the office to have the glass replaced.

Air Flow

If you can feel air coming through your window there are a couple of reasons that may be occurring.

You want to start by unlocking your window, open and close the window a couple of times and then re-lock the window. In some occasions the window does get closed when the window is locked causing the window not to be closed properly.

After checking to make sure the window is properly closed another way to check the air flow is the lighter test. If you have a lighter you can hold the flame up to the window, and if there is a flicker in the flame please call the office for further assistance. Please make sure the window is closed to ensure the accuracy with the flame test.

Maintenance

We advise that homeowners reseal/recaulk the exterior of the windows on an annual basis. Over time the caulking can crack or deteriorate which can leave the window exposed to leaks.. We are able to seal the windows for an additional fee, or you can purchase the caulking we use during installation as well.

Window How To's

Below are videos that can help you troubleshoot the two most common issues customers may have with their windows.

The video on the left will show you how to remove completely so you can clean the window on both sides, and the video on the right will show you what to do in the event your window will not stay open.

In any case if you are unsure about what to do you can always call the office and we are more than happy to answer any questions you have!
