What is a window wrap?
When a replacement window goes in, the new unit sits inside the existing opening. Around it is the exterior trim: the wood brickmould, casing, and sill that frame the window and bridge the gap to your siding or brick. A window wrap is a custom-bent aluminum (or vinyl-coated aluminum) cladding that covers that trim completely.
Our crews measure each opening, bend the coil stock on site, and fit the wrap tight to the frame so no wood is left exposed. Every seam is sealed. The result is a clean, continuous metal surface around the window that looks finished and stays that way.
1. You stop repainting the trim
Exposed wood trim is the highest-maintenance part of a window. Sun, snow, and freeze-thaw cycles crack the paint, the wood soaks up moisture, and every few years you are back on a ladder scraping and repainting. In the Mountain West, where UV exposure is intense and winters are hard, that cycle is even shorter.
Aluminum wrap has a factory-baked finish that does not peel, chip, or need paint. Once it is installed, the trim maintenance is essentially done for the life of the window.
2. It protects the wood underneath
The trim around a window is where water most often gets into a wall. Rotted brickmould and sills are one of the most common problems we uncover when we pull old windows. Wrapping covers that wood, sheds water away from the opening, and seals the joints so moisture cannot find its way in.
That protection matters for the window itself, too. A new window installed against trim that is already deteriorating will not perform the way it should for very long. Wrapping ensures the whole opening is protected, not just the glass.
3. It makes the new windows look finished
A brand-new window surrounded by weathered, uneven trim looks unfinished, and it draws the eye to exactly the wrong place. Wraps give every opening crisp, straight lines and a uniform frame, so the windows read as a deliberate design choice rather than a repair.
This is where wraps earn their reputation for curb appeal. The right wrap color can completely change the character of a home.
4. You get a custom color without a custom price
Wrap coil comes in dozens of colors, so you can match your existing trim, blend with the siding, or pick a contrast that makes the windows stand out. Black wraps around white windows have become one of our most requested combinations, and for good reason. On a tan brick ranch or a light-colored home, that dark frame gives a modern, architectural look that would otherwise require expensive custom-colored window frames.
The whole-home project we recently completed in Kansas is a good example: white sliders and single-hung windows finished with black wraps against tan brick. The wraps did as much for the look of that house as the windows did.
5. It is far more cost-effective while the windows are out
Wrapping is most efficient during a window replacement. The crew is already set up at every opening, the old trim is exposed, and the new window is being sealed to the house. Adding wraps at that point is a modest addition to the project.
Coming back later to wrap the same windows means a second visit, a second setup, and working around a finished installation. If you think you may want wraps eventually, the time to add them is during the window project.
Is wrapping right for every home?
Almost. Wraps are ideal on homes with wood exterior trim, and they pair well with siding, brick, and stucco. On some historic homes, exposed wood trim is part of the character, and we will talk through whether a color-matched wrap or a repaint is the better fit.
